The Conference of Directors of Private Pre-Tertiary Schools, has called on political parties and government not to extend the free Senior High School (SHS) Programme to Private Schools.

It noted that, private schools are profit making enterprises and so while they appreciate the free SHS policy, it goes contrary to their mission.

In an interview, the President, Philip Boateng Mensah said being mindful of the challenges Private Health facilities face with the National Health Insurance Scheme, they are worried extending Free SHS to private schools will stifle their growth.

Mr. Mensah expressed shock at government’s decision to re-open schools in January.

He said government is taking the action solely because of the financial burden free SHS has caused.

He said schools are the best place to ensure adherence to safety protocols.
