The Ghana Education Service has announced the release of outstanding funds for the procurement of perishable food items for senior high and technical schools across the country.

In a statement issued on April 20, 2026, and signed by the Head of Public Relations, Daniel Fenyi, the Service confirmed that the funds have been made available to support student feeding under the Free SHS policy.

According to GES, the release is aimed at addressing delays in the supply of essential food items to schools, which has been a concern among stakeholders in recent months. The statement noted that management has initiated processes to ensure the efficient and timely distribution of the funds to beneficiary institutions nationwide.

GES further assured that strict monitoring and accountability measures have been put in place to ensure that the funds are used solely for their intended purpose. This is expected to enhance transparency and ensure value for money in the procurement process.

The Service reaffirmed its commitment to student welfare, emphasising that improving feeding conditions remains a priority in achieving better educational outcomes.

The release of the funds is expected to bring relief to school authorities and suppliers, while also stabilising food provision in second-cycle institutions. Education stakeholders are expected to monitor the implementation to ensure the intervention delivers its intended impact on student welfare and academic performance.
