Government has reiterated its commitment to prioritise skills development.

Speaking at the launch of a zonal and national skills competition in Accra, the Minister of Education, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh said ’Ghana Beyond Aid’ will not be realised without the contribution of a labour force that has Technical and Vocational Skills.

The Ministry therefore intends to mainstream Technical and Vocational Schools to address the gap.

The first ever zonal and national Skills competition being organised by the Council for Technical and Vocational Education (COTVET) would see participants showcase their skills in areas including Auto- Technology, Welding, ICT software, Construction and Metal works.
The Education Minister, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, noted that sustainable development would require the empowerment of Institutions and individuals.
The competition therefore will help expose the youth to career opportunities available as well as equip them with the necessary skills for the job market.
Executive Director of COTVET, Dr. Fred Kyei Asamoah, was hopeful that the competition will create the awareness of  the importance of Technical and Vocational Education and Training as well as produce Skills for National and Global needs.
Some Contestants who spoke to Radio Ghana thanked COTVET for the opportunity and pledged to work hard to raise high the flag of Ghana.
The four day competition is slated for the 18th to the 21st of this month, at the Accra and Kumasi Technical Universities and the Accra Technical Training Centre.
