KNUST set to admit first batch of FREE SHS beneficiaries next academic year

The Minister of State in Charge of Tertiary Education, Professor Kwesi Yankah, says Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), is all set to admit large number of the first batch of beneficiaries of the Free SHS policy for the 2020/2021 academic year. 

He said currently, an estimated number of 90,000 students were admitted into the various Universities. 

This number is expected to increase to 145,000 next academic year due to the Free SHS policy.

He, together with the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Obiri Danso, inspected ongoing works by the University, under the Colleges of Health Sciences and Art and Built Environment and the School of Business. 

He was impressed with the state of preparedness by the University, especially in the area of Science. 

Professor Yankah noted however that a challenge for the University is the inability to provide residential accommodation for students, and called on the University administration, to partner with the private sector to address the problem.
