OKESS student arrested for sending gun to school

The Police at Tafo-Pankrono in the Ashanti region has arrested a 16-year old second year boarding student of the Osei Kyeretwie Senior High School, OKESS, for unlawful possession of a firearm.

The Police has also arrested the stepfather of the student, Daniel Owusu Baafi in connection with unlawful possession of the firearm.

A statement signed and issued by the Head of the Public Affairs Unit of the Ashanti Central Region Police Command, DSP Godwin Ahianyo, to the media in Kumasi explained that, the student, (name withheld), allegedly admitted to bringing the locally manufactured firearm to school after it was detected by school authorities.

According to the statement, the gun was found by OKESS’ authorities during their routine search of the dormitories on the 14th of this month at about 9. 30 am.

It noted that, after admitting ownership of the weapon, the authorities handed him over to the Police.

During interrogation, the student allegedly disclosed his stepfather as the owner of the firearm leading to his arrest.

The statement said both the student and his stepfather have been granted police enquiry bail and are scheduled to report to the police today, Monday, 19th May 2025, for further investigations.
