The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released provisional results for the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for school candidates.
A total of 603,328 candidates from 20,395 schools sat the exam at 2,237 centres nationwide. The figure included 297,250 males and 306,078 females, with 72 visually impaired, 239 hearing impaired and 161 others with special needs. About 2,526 candidates were absent.
Following investigations into irregularities, the Final Awards and Examiners’ Appointment Committee approved several sanctions at its August 15 meeting. These include:
- Cancellation of subject results of 718 candidates
- Cancellation of entire results of 177 candidates
- Withholding of subject results of 1,240 candidates
- Withholding of entire results of 93 candidates
WAEC also cancelled subject results from 119 schools and withheld subject results from 87 schools pending investigations, which will conclude by September 6, 2025.
