England are strong, but Ghana will be very competitive – Kurt Okraku

GFA President Kurt Okraku has declared that the Black Stars will be ready to match England’s challenge at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, acknowledging England’s strength under coach Thomas Tuchel while emphasizing that Ghana will field a highly competitive and determined side when the two teams meet.

“I think that England has a good team. We must respect the manager and the experience that he brings on board,” he said. “But what is also true is that they will meet a very, very competitive and determined Ghanaian side,” Kurt Okraku said

The match is part of Group L, where Ghana also face Panama and Croatia during the tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

  • The Black Stars are aiming to reach the knockout stage for the first time since their historic quarter‑final run in 2010, when they became the first African team to reach that round in modern history.

Ghana have begun camp in Cardiff, training at Dragon Park under head coach Carlos Queiroz ahead of the friendly against Wales on June 2.The team will spend a week in Cardiff before moving to the United States for the next phase of preparations, using the training block and the Wales game to assess form, fitness, and tactical options.

Queiroz is expected to name the final 26‑man squad for the World Cup on June 1, with the Wales friendly serving as a crucial final test for players contesting places in the tournament squad.
