An Accra High court has directed the medical consultant and a psychiatrist at the Accra psychiatric hospital Dr. Sammy Ohene to furnish the court with baptismal certificate, birth certificate, passport and the basis for arriving at the report that the accused person Daniel Asiedu is mentally stable and fit to stand trial.
Daniel Asiedu one of the persons charged for the murder of the former Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North constituency, JB Danquah, underwent a psychiatric examination to determine his mental capacity to stand trial after his lawyers raised issues of his mental instability.
The defence counsel, Augustines Obour believe their client could possibly be suffering from some mental ailment due to certain comments and behaviour he has been exhibiting since the beginning of the case.
He again pleaded with the court to grant bail for his two clients saying that the second accused Vincent Bosso has been on remand for almost three years with the charge of conspiracy but none of the witnesses have mentioned his name.
The defense counsel said he is a Ghanaian who had a place to live. He told the court that the first accused Daniel Asiedu is 19 years and is not right under the juveninal act for him to be on remand for three years.
A Senior State Attorney, Sefakor Batse told the court that the charge of conspiracy per the criminal and other offences act is punishable by law as if the accused person committed the crime.
She added that there is no unreasonable delay and there is record showing that prosecution is ready to conduct the trial.
The court presided over by Justice George Buadi adjourned the case to the 30th of this month.
