The just ended 29th Ghana Journalist Association, GJA Media Awards had awardees from the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, GBC receive recognition for their dedication and commitment to journalism.
The awardees including the Female Journalist of the year, Doreen Ampofo who also bagged the best reporter in Documentary (Radio) and best in gender reporting, the Education Reporter of the year went to Peter Agengre, Esther Aidoo bagged the best in disability reporting and last but not the least, the best in feature reporting (Radio) went to Rachel Kakraba.
The journalists presented their awards to the Director General of the Corporation, Professor Amin Alhassan on Thursday, November 13, 2025 who congratulated them for the feat.
Professor Alhassan acknowledged their dedication and commitment to their work and expressed his excitement upon hearing the announcement of the winners.
“It is a pleasure and great honor that GBC has produced such excellence and this will help develop our brand”, he said.
He further encouraged them to continue learning and equipping themselves with variety of skills as Artificial Intelligence, AI was fast becoming a threat to the job market.
He stated that being versatile would enable them by not depending only on being journalists or reporters but being multi skilled in camera handling, photography, videography and graphic designing.
“Your generation of journalists would need to be versatile because AI would reduce the need for regular journalists”, he said.
According to him, each of them should endeavor to mentor others as well because some people need a little push to get some effort done.
Taking turns, Doreen Ampofo thanked the DG and recounted how for the first time, they decided to file the nominations, they fortunately came back with some awards.
Esther Aidoo also stated that the awards received was a motivation not only for them to do better but for their colleagues to emulate as well.
Rachel Kakraba lauded how the corporation has celebrated them over the years.
Peter Agengre also expressed his gratitude to the DG for believing in him and recounted how he started from radio, and integrated into education reporting form the Upper East region.
