The Director of Communications for Movement for Change, Mr. Solomon Owusu has suggested that, government should focus on reviving the railway system instead of retooling Metro Mass Transit as suggested by the Vice President, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang.

According to him, Vice President’s proposed solution to Ghana’s transport crisis, will only bring about chaos and worsen the situation already faced by commuters as there will be more buses on the roads thereby, fueling traffic.

Speaking on JoyNews’ Prime Insights on Saturday, January 17, 2026, Mr. Owusu emphasized the need for a more effective and sustainable solution, highlighting the potential of the railway system to alleviate the transport crisis.

His comments come amid worsening public transport challenges in Accra, with commuters facing acute shortages of commercial vehicles, long waiting times, and rising transport fares.

The Vice President, Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, had met with Transport Ministry officials on Friday, January 16, 2026 to address the issue of long queues at bus stops, assuring citizens that the government is working to find solutions and stating that metro mass would be retooled with more buses.
