The Ghana Para Swimming Association is proud to announce a historic milestone for para sports in Ghana. For the first time, through the tremendous leadership and dedication of the Association’s President, Madam Farida Idriss, Ghana will be represented by two para swimmers at the World Para Swimming Series in Australia.
The athletes, Promise Wonder Atsu Aheto and Bryan Baffour Kwadjo Akoto, will travel to Australia to undergo international classification and compete at the prestigious World Para Swimming Series event. This championship also serves as a qualifying pathway toward the Commonwealth Games 2026, marking an important step on Ghana’s journey to elite international para sport competition.
Both athletes will compete in:
• Freestyle 50m
• Breaststroke 50m
• Breaststroke 100m
This participation represents a significant breakthrough for Ghana Para Swimming, as it provides the athletes with the opportunity to gain international classification and potentially secure qualification standards for future major international competitions.
The Ghana Para Swimming Association extends its sincere appreciation to the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) for once again stepping in with vital financial support to make this participation possible. Their commitment continues to play a key role in developing and promoting para sports in Ghana.
This milestone reflects strong collaboration between the Ghana Para Swimming Association, NPC Ghana, and the Ghana Olympic Committee. Together, these institutions are demonstrating a united commitment to creating opportunities for Ghanaian para athletes to shine on the global stage.
Madam Farida Idriss, President of the Ghana Para Swimming Association, played a critical role in ensuring that these young para swimmers secured this life-changing opportunity. Her leadership, advocacy, and determination have opened new doors for para swimming development in Ghana.
As the athletes prepare to compete in Australia, Ghana proudly stands behind them and hopes they will achieve qualification and continue to inspire a new generation of para swimmers across the country.
