President John Dramani Mahama has announced that Ghana will introduce a free e-visa regime for all African nationals effective May 25, 2026, as part of efforts to promote regional integration and ease travel across the continent.

The policy, which takes effect on African Day, is expected to strengthen Ghana’s commitment to pan-Africanism and make the country more accessible to visitors across Africa.

President Mahama said the initiative forms part of broader reforms to modernise Ghana’s visa system and position the country as a hub for trade, tourism, and investment.

He noted that the free e-visa policy, together with ongoing visa waiver agreements, will help deepen integration and enhance the movement of people and goods within the continent.

The President assured that adequate security measures have been put in place to screen prospective visitors, ensuring that national security is not compromised.

He added that Ghana will continue to pursue additional visa waiver agreements to ease travel for Ghanaian passport holders and strengthen diplomatic ties across Africa.
