A Ghanaian engineer, Moses Tangwam is making waves in one of the largest climate resilience and infrastructure projects in the United States. Tangwam is lending his technical expertise to the $3.2 billion Fargo-Moorhead Metropolitan Area Flood Diversion Project, a massive undertaking designed to protect over 235,000 people from catastrophic flooding in North Dakota and Minnesota.

Tangwam, who holds an MPhil in Geomatics Engineering from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology as well as a Master’s Degree in Geographic Information Science from Michigan Technological University, is currently serving with ASN Constructors.

His responsibilities involve overseeing critical field operations for the project, including surveying for 30 miles of flood channels, 19 bridges, two river aqueducts and extensive earthworks totalling over 22 million cubic yards.

The project is being implemented through a public-private partnership between the Metro Flood Diversion Authority and the Red River Valley Alliance.

In an interview with GBCNEWS, Mr. Tangwam underscored the need for Africa to invest in technology that help resolve human centered issue such as Fargo-Moorhead Project designed to ease flooding.

“Let me tell you, Africa is far lagging behind when it comes to technological advancement. It should therefore be a priority for African countries, especially Ghana to consider investing in technology that will deliver results”.

Talking about his mission for joining the ASN Constructors team, Tangwam stated that he believes in innovation especially in technology that would help bring results to ease human suffering.

“My mission is to ensure infrastructure that withstands extreme weather, while introducing innovative geospatial techniques that raise the standard for construction surveying in the U.S.”

Before joining the Fargo project, Tangwam played a lead role on Ghana’s Cardinal Namdini Gold Mines Early Earthworks Project, where he managed engineering surveys, drone mapping, and volumetric reporting, demonstrating the global reach of his expertise.
