GJA condemns attacks on journalists by security personnel

The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has strongly condemned the frequent attacks on Journalists especially by security personnel. the incident, describing it as “a worrying trend that threatens the safety and independence of the media.”

Speaking at the press, Mr. Kwame Asare, GJA President, called for immediate action to protect journalists and ensure such attacks are not repeated.

“Journalists are the eyes and ears of the public. Attacking them is an attack on democracy itself,” Mr. Asare said. He further urged security agencies to investigate the matter thoroughly and bring those responsible to justice.

GJA has vowed to increase advocacy and provide support to journalists in the line of duty. They stressed that freedom of expression and press safety must be safeguarded for the country to maintain a robust and accountable media landscape. 

Authorities are currently reviewing security footage to identify the attackers, while media houses have called for calm and solidarity among journalists nationwide.

The incident comes amid rising concerns over the safety of media personnel in Ghana, with multiple reports of harassment and intimidation in recent months.
