The Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akondoh, has announced the successful processing of salary payments for 321 Pharmacist House Officers who completed their housemanship in 2024. This milestone marks a significant step toward clearing outstanding financial obligations within the healthcare sector and provides long-awaited relief to these young professionals.

In a statement, the Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting healthcare workers and ensuring they are duly compensated for their essential services.

At the same time, Mr Mintah Akondoh addressed the growing concerns of the 2024 batch of Rotation Nurses and Allied Health Interns, who began their rotations in May 2024 and are set to complete them in May 2025. Despite months of dedicated service, this group has yet to receive any salary payments.

According to the Minister, the delay stems from the previous administration’s inability to secure the necessary financial clearance before the interns commenced their rotations.

“We understand the frustration and difficulties these young professionals are experiencing,” he stated, acknowledging the financial burden the delay has placed on them.

To resolve the issue, the Ministry of Health is actively working in collaboration with key government agencies to expedite the clearance and disbursement processes.

The Minister of Health reassured stakeholders that measures are being taken to ensure all outstanding payments are made promptly. This initiative forms part of a broader agenda by the Ministry to address salary arrears across all categories of healthcare workers.

Mr Akondoh underscored the critical role healthcare professionals play in the delivery of essential services, stressing the importance of timely and consistent financial support.

The Minister assured all affected Rotation Nurses and Allied Health Interns that their concerns are being treated with urgency.

He also revealed that the Ministry is developing a more sustainable and efficient system to prevent future payment delays.
