The Hatch House Foundation, a non-governmental organisation dedicated to supporting underserved schools and deprived communities across Ghana, has commissioned an ultramodern mechanised borehole for the Assin Odumase Roman Catholic Basic School in the Assin Fosu Municipality of the Central Region.

In addition to the water project, the Foundation also donated essential ICT equipment, including a computer projector with accessories, an HP laptop, and a multi-purpose coloured printer, to enhance the teaching and learning of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in the school.

The intervention follows an appeal made by the school authorities in February 2026, after the Foundation had earlier provided 10 sets of all-in-one desktop computers to strengthen ICT education in the school.

Speaking on behalf of the Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Tayib Sheriff, during a brief but colourful handing-over ceremony, the Foundation’s Administrator, Mrs. Stephanie Adawu Dadzie, described the initiative as both the fulfilment of a promise and a strategic investment in improving ICT training and skills acquisition among students.

She emphasised that access to ICT tools is critical in today’s technology-driven world and reaffirmed the Foundation’s commitment to equipping learners with relevant digital competencies.

Mrs. Adawu Dadzie also recounted a tragic incident that highlighted the urgency of the water project, revealing that a student lost his life after being struck by a speeding vehicle while rushing home in search of drinking water.

She noted that the incident deepened the Foundation’s resolve to provide a reliable and safe water source for the school.

According to her, the project is expected to benefit over 2,000 pupils, ease the financial burden on parents, and significantly improve sanitation and overall well-being within the school.

“This gesture is not just about opening doors, but holding them open for others in the pursuit of excellence,” she stated.

She further noted that the donation aligns with the Foundation’s mission to support deprived schools and communities, and urged school authorities to adopt a strong maintenance culture to ensure the longevity of the facilities and equipment.

Receiving the items on behalf of the school, the Headmistress, Madam Theresah Amoah, expressed profound gratitude to the Foundation’s CEO and Board of Directors for the intervention.

She explained that the lack of potable water had adversely affected teaching and learning, as students often left the school premises in search of water and did not return.

She added that the borehole would greatly improve hygiene and create a more conducive learning environment.

The school’s ICT Facilitator, Mr. Jacob Ofosu Opare, also welcomed the support, noting that the new curriculum demands the integration of technology into teaching.

He said the availability of projectors would make lessons more interactive and improve learning outcomes, ultimately preparing students for the 21st-century job market. He assured that the equipment would be properly utilised and maintained.

The ceremony was attended by representatives of the Ghana Education Service, including Mr. Mark Brewu Arhin, School Improvement Support Officer (SISO), and Madam Evelyn Kedidor, Municipal Girl-Child Education Coordinator. Also present were the Assembly Member for the area, Mr. Eric Kwaku Foh, and members of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA).
