On the sidelines of the ECOWAS Field Assessment Monitoring and Evaluation Mission to Ghana, the ECOWAS Commission launched key interventions to improve access to safe water and hygiene practices on Friday, 19 September 2025.

Speaking on behalf of H.E. Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, President of the ECOWAS Commission, Dr. Sintiki Tarfa-Ugbe, Director of Humanitarian and Social Affairs, inaugurated two boreholes and a Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) education and sensitisation campaign in the communities of Midie and Boahenekrom, both located in Ghana’s Greater Accra Region. These interventions form part of the ECOWAS Flood Relief Assistance Programme, designed to support victims of the devastating 2022–2023 floods.

The projects are expected to significantly expand community access to clean water and strengthen hygiene awareness among children and households.

The initiative was implemented in partnership with Ghana’s National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and Abantu Development. During the recent mission to NADMO, the ECOWAS team evaluated the progress of these interventions, underscoring the Commission’s commitment to standing by its member states in times of crisis and building resilience against future disasters.
