Medical Laboratory Workers at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital are set to embark on industrial action on Wednesday, February 4, 2026.
The move follows a statutory notice sent in late January to the Ministry of Health, hospital management, and the National Labour Commission, signaling the workers’ intent to protest longstanding issues.
The Korle Bu Teaching Hospital’s Laboratory Workers have urged all members to remain disciplined and strictly adhere to directives issued through official union channels. The union has promised to communicate further instructions as the industrial action progresses.
The strike will initially take the form of a sit-down protest across all hospital laboratories, running from February 4 through Sunday, February 8. During this period, laboratory operations will be limited to skeletal staffing, with outpatient department (OPD) services temporarily suspended.
Only emergency in-patient cases will be attended to, while all other samples, including those requiring follow-up beyond February 8, will not be processed. Services at the Cardiothoracic Centre and the Blood Bank are expected to continue normally.
From Monday, February 9, the industrial action is expected to escalate, with laboratory workers fully withdrawing all services, including activities at the Blood Bank and the Cardiothoracic Centre.
