It is estimated that about 342,000 people are living with HIV in Ghana as of 2019. However, a little more than 100,000 living with the disease are on anti-retroviral drugs.

According to the Director-General of the Ghana AIDS Commission, Kyeremeh Atuahene, due to stigmatization majority of HIV carriers feel reluctant to come for the anti-retroviral drugs.

Speaking on Uniiq Breakfast Drive, Mr. Atuahene said despite this, new infections from mother to child have reduced by 18.4% He attributed this to pregnant women being put on the anti-retroviral drugs at the early stage of the pregnancy.

Mr. Atuahene advised the public to take advantage of the free testing in clinics and hospitals to know their status.
