The Parliamentary Select Committee on Health has issued a call to the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) to improve its relations with the community. This appeal comes in the wake of recent public outrage following the tragic death of a male patient at the facility, which a section of the public believe resulted from negligence.
The committee’s visit to TTH aimed to assess the current state of healthcare delivery and address issues surrounding the treatment of patients, but also coincided with a recent impasse that led to the dismissal of the CEO of the hospital, Dr. Adam Atiku.
During the committee’s visit, the Chairperson, Dr. Mark Kurt Nawaane, urged the hospital administration to foster better communication and transparency with its patrons.
Meanwhile there is a glimmer of hope that the Doctors Association of Tamale, will call of their strike soon following an engagement with the Parliamentary Select Committee on Health , the Management of the hospital and agrieved doctors.
The Acting Head of the TTH, Dr. Salifu Alhassan Tiah in an interview with the media said he expects an amicable settlement by tomorrow. He said the strike action embarked on by the medical doctors has affected the effective running of the facility.
The doctors declared the strike late Wednesday evening in protest at what they believe is disrespect from the Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh and the MP for Tamale North, Alhassan Suhiyini.
