India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, has called for bold and coordinated global action to address the world’s most pressing challenges, including climate change, pandemics, terrorism, and cyber security.
Speaking in Ghana’s Parliament as part of his two-day official visit, Prime Minister Modi cautioned that the scars of colonialism and the lingering effects of global crises continue to pose serious threats to development, particularly in the Global South.
He expressed concern that many of the global institutions created in the last century are increasingly struggling to respond to modern challenges.

“Complex crises such as climate change, pandemics, terrorism, and cyber security persist, yet the institutions created in the last century are struggling to respond. These changes demand credible and effective reforms in global governance,” he stated.
He stressed that the international community must move beyond slogans and rhetoric, and instead take decisive, collaborative steps to build a fairer, more resilient world.
“We need more than slogans,” he emphasized.
On matters of governance, Prime Minister Modi praised Ghana’s strong democratic credentials and commitment to inclusive development. He described Ghana as a beacon of hope and stability on the African continent.

“When we look at Ghana, we see a nation with courage. Your commitment to democratic ideas and inclusive progress truly makes Ghana a beacon of inspiration for the entire African continent,” he noted.
The Indian leader expressed deep appreciation for the hospitality shown to him and his delegation throughout the visit, adding that the warmth and generosity of the Ghanaian people will remain etched in his heart.
Prime Minister Modi also reaffirmed India’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Ghana. He disclosed that discussions held with President John Dramani Mahama had culminated in an agreement to elevate the longstanding relationship between the two countries into a comprehensive strategic partnership.
He underscored the importance of enhanced cooperation in key sectors including trade, technology, education, and infrastructure, adding that Ghana remains a vital partner in India’s broader engagement with Africa.
