Former Germany coach, Joachim Löw has poured cold water on mounting rumors tying him to Ghana’s vacant national team position.
The 66-year-old, fresh off leading Die Mannschaft to World Cup glory in 2014, emphasized that no formal contact has come from the West African nation despite fervent speculation.
Whispers in football circles painted a picture of Löw nearing a deal for a World Cup-only stint with the Black Stars. The hypothetical role would focus solely on the 2026 tournament in North America, aiming to harness his tactical expertise for Ghana’s qualification push.
Yet, Löw swiftly debunked the buzz in an interview with Kicker magazine, stating, “I’ve had zero conversations with anyone from the Ghana FA, it’s all just noise.”
This firm denial throws a wrench into Ghana’s urgent hunt for a successor to Otto Addo, sacked after a humiliating loss to Germany in March qualifiers.
The Black Stars, four-time Africa Cup of Nations winners, now face mounting pressure ahead of key matches, with fans clamoring for a proven winner to steady the ship.
Löw’s availability stems from his 2021 exit post-Euro 2020, ending a 15-year tenure marked by innovation and silverware. While he’s hinted at a coaching comeback if the project excites him, his latest words signal Ghana hasn’t piqued his interest yet, leaving the door ajar for other candidates in Accra’s ongoing deliberations.
