Late Peter Lamptey’s family, inform Ga State Noyaa Mantse on final funeral arrangements

The family of the late former Black Stars and Hearts of Oak player, Peter Lamptey has called on the Noyaa Mantse of the Ga State.

Nii Kojo Ashiefie Papanyira I, a former management member of Accra Hearts of Oak and a patron of Accra Hearts of Oak Old Players Association (AHOOPA), to formally inform him about his death and final funeral arrangements. According to the family, the funeral is scheduled for February 27th in Accra.

Nii Kojo Ashirifi Papanyira I, known in private life as Ben Nunoo Mensah, who also doubles as a patron of Accra Hearts of Oak Old Players Association (AHOOPA), described the late Peter Lamptey as a hero and great soccer star who brought joy and smiles to the faces of Ghanaian soccer fans.

He expressed his deepest condolences to the delegation and family, recalling his personal relations with the late former footballer during his career.

Peter Lamptey was a great Ghanaian footballer who won the Goal King title in 1973. He was also the first top scorer of the National League to be recognized and rewarded by the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG).

He played for the Black Stars, Accra Great Olympics, and Accra Hearts of Oak, scoring many goals for his sides. He exhibited a lot of talent on the field of play, which fondly earned him the nickname the ‘Goal Thief’,

After his illustrious career as a footballer, he ventured into coaching some youthful rising stars before his demise on Thursday, October 9, 2025.

Present at the meeting with Nii Ashiefie Papanyira I while he met the delegation, were Yoomo Afiyea – Chief Fetish Priestess of the Ga State, Nii Laryea Amartey, Nii Tackie – Katse and Nii Ayaa 1- Afototse of Odorkor Official Town.

Peter Lamptey’s family delegation included Nii Tuku Armah, Sowah Ghartey, Jennifer Lamptey, and Vincentia Sosu.
