The Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, has appointed Alhaji Zubairu Kassim as his Senior Political Advisor with responsibility for Constituency Affairs.

The appointment, which takes effect immediately, is described as a strategic move to strengthen the leadership and operational efficiency of the Minority Leader’s office. It also reflects what Afenyo-Markin calls “a deliberate investment in leadership excellence and institutional capacity.”

According to a statement signed by Ahmed Rufai Adamu, Chef de Cabinet at the Office of the Minority Leader, Kassim’s appointment brings to the Minority Leader’s team “a respected public servant whose career exemplifies technical competence, political discernment and firm commitment to democratic governance.”

Kassim and Afenyo-Markin share a long history of collaboration dating back to Kassim’s tenure as Municipal Chief Executive for Effutu from 2021 to 2025. The two are credited with forging a strong partnership that delivered tangible development outcomes for the Effutu Municipality.

The statement noted that the mutual trust and shared vision developed over years of service will add “a critical dimension of operational familiarity and continuity” to the new appointment.

Beyond his work in the public sector, Kassim has held senior management roles in private enterprises where he is said to have demonstrated operational excellence and improved organisational performance.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Science from the University of Cape Coast and a Certificate in Logistics Management from the University of Ghana Business School. He is currently pursuing a Master of Philosophy in Procurement and Supply Chain Management at the University of Education, Winneba.

The statement emphasized that the appointment reflects an understanding that effective parliamentary opposition in Ghana requires “strategic thinking, operational excellence, and the ability to translate political vision into actionable policy alternatives.”

Describing Kassim as possessing “a rare combination of grassroots political intelligence, administrative expertise, and logistics mastery,” the Minority Leader expressed full confidence in his ability to contribute meaningfully to the office’s strategic goals and to the broader aspirations of Ghanaians for accountable leadership.
