The Head of Paediatric Oncology Unit at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Dr. Vivian Paintsil has called for the inclusion of childhood cancer treatment onto the National Health Insurance Scheme, to save children.

She said treatment is expensive, a situation which has become a headache for families.

Dr. Paintsil observed that children with cancers are vulnerable, and there is the need to safeguard their future.

She made this known when Cedi Foundation, a healthcare Non-Profit Organisation, donated a cheque of ¢26,500 to the Paediatric and Oncology Unit of the Hospital, to assist children diagnosed with cancer.

The presentation is part of a partnership agreement between the Cedi Foundation and the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital to raise money through the foundation, to cater for treatment of cancer.

The Cedi Foundation is committed to making a lasting impact in the health and wellness of local communities in Ghana, and in particular, the fight against cancer.

The Head of Paediatric Oncology Unit at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Dr. Vivian Paintsil described high rate of childhood cancers as worrisome, saying the unit recorded 130 new cases and therefore called on government to consider treatment under the NHIS.
