The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has underscored the critical role of alumni support in strengthening the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), urging past students to give back to the institution that shaped their lives.
Speaking at the maiden KNUST Kaptains of Industry Soirée & Awards Nite (KOISAN) held in Accra, the Minister, who is an alumnus of the university, described KNUST as the foundation upon which many successful careers have been built.
“We are here today because of KNUST. We are who we are today because of KNUST, and so we should try to give back and support the university to make it better,” he stated.
Hon. Muntaka shared nostalgic memories of his time on campus and highlighted the importance of strong partnerships between universities, alumni, and industry in advancing national development. He noted that KNUST’s enduring impact on the lives of its graduates reflects the institution’s central role in producing leaders, innovators, and policymakers who contribute significantly to Ghana’s growth.
The Interior Minister encouraged alumni to support the university through the newly launched KNUST Alumni Endowment Fund (KAEF), stressing that even modest contributions can make a meaningful difference. He explained that the fund would help address pressing challenges such as student accommodation, research financing, and overall institutional development.
President of the KNUST Alumni Association, Dr. Herman Addae, also addressed the gathering, aligning his remarks with the event’s theme, “Partnership in Progress.” He commended the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Rita Akosua Dickson, describing her as the driving force behind the initiative.
Dr. Addae noted that the soirée was designed not only to celebrate outstanding alumni achievements but also to strengthen collaboration between the university and industry, emphasizing that sustainable progress is best achieved through collective effort.
The KOISAN event brought together distinguished alumni, industry leaders, and stakeholders, marking a significant step toward deepening partnerships aimed at advancing KNUST’s vision and impact.
