The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has fixed Saturday, January 31, 2026, for its presidential primaries. The decision was taken at a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held on June 17, 2025 at the Alisa Hotel in Accra.

With National Chairman Stephen Ntim absent due to ill health, First Vice Chairman, Danquah Smith Buttey chaired the meeting. Key figures in attendance included former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, and Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi-Boasiako.

The meeting also reviewed proposed constitutional reforms from a committee led by former Speaker of Parliament, Prof. Mike Oquaye. That committee was formed in response to the party’s defeat in the 2024 general elections.

While nominations are yet to officially open, known aspirants who have openly expressed interest for the flagbearaship include Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia (2024 presidential candidate),  Kennedy Agyapong, and Dr. Bryan Acheampong.
