The Youth Wing of the National Democratic Congress, NDC in the Okere District of the Eastern Region has passionately called on President John Dramani Mahama to suspend the nomination of Eric William Ayettey as the DCE for Okere.
The youth reiterated that though President Mahama has the discretion to appoint anyone as the MMDCE for an area, they also understand the need for the President to nominate candidates who have the competence, academic prowess and someone who resonates and meets the expectation of party people, the youth, and the community as expressed in the letter of directive issued by the General Secretary of the NDC, Fiifi Fiavi Kwetey on January 2, 2025, to Regional and National vetting committees.
The youth during a press conference yesterday to demonstrate their displeasure concerning the nomination of Mr. Ayettey as DCE for Okere, reemphasized that Mr. Ayettey’s nomination contradicts the stipulated standards and did not resonate with the rank and file of the NDC in Okere especially the youth.
They are therefore calling on President Mahama to rescind his decision of nominating Mr. Ayettey, the current NDC Constituency Chairman of the party and rather appoint the 2024 NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Okere, Prince Henry Anim-Owiredu as the DCE for Okere to help promote development of the district.
They lamented that they are tired of Mr. Ayettey for being the NDC Constituency Chairman for 12 years, yet the NDC has not been able to win a single polling station in the Okere constituency not even in the chairman’s hometown in Abiriw.
They noted that the party cannot afford to present different Parliamentary Candidate for the NDC in the 2028 general elections hence the need to nominate the 2024 Parliamentary Candidate for the party as the DCE for Okere to enable him establish himself as a strong force going into the 2028 general elections.

Appointment of the Party Chairman is break in the tradition set in the constituency, NDC PC became the MCE when Okere was under Akuapim North with George Opare Addo, when NPP took their second runner to Dan Botwe became the DCE and now is the MP. So why is NDC breaking the chain. Okere and Akuapim North is traditionally NPP so to win the seat the party needs to be strategic.
Again the NDC chairman has been on chairmanship for 12 years and can never contest and win the MP seat in Okere, because he is not educated and hardly express himself well, also aged approaching retirement soon why not allow new generations take up mantle of leadership now.
The appointment of the NDC Chairperson as DCE is a clear indication that NDC national executive’s body have no interest in the Parliamentary Seat of Okere and Okere Development, and the Youth must see it and advise themselves.
