The Office of the Former President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has rejected reports suggesting that he plans to approach President John Dramani Mahama over the return of former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta.

‎In a rejoinder dated December 16, 2025, the Office described the publication by the Herald newspaper, which was repeated by other media outlets, as completely false and misleading.

‎The report claimed that former President Akufo-Addo was considering seeking assurances from President Mahama for the safe passage of Mr. Ofori-Atta. However, the Office said this claim is a “total fabrication” and has no basis in fact.

‎According to the statement, Nana Akufo-Addo has neither considered nor made any request, directly or indirectly, to President Mahama or any of his representatives on the matter.

‎The Office stressed that the former President remains a strong believer in democracy and the rule of law, noting that his commitment to these principles has never been in doubt.

‎It acknowledged that Mr. Ofori-Atta’s situation is of concern to the former President, partly because of their family relationship and because Mr. Ofori-Atta served as Finance Minister during Akufo-Addo’s two terms in office. However, the statement made it clear that this concern does not extend to interfering with legal processes.

‎The Office further demanded that media houses which carried the false publication reproduce the rejoinder in line with the former President’s rights.
