The appointment of electoral officers by ruling parties has been cited as a major contributory factor to the increasing mistrust and near anarchy that have characterised the electoral process.

Executive Director of Africa Centre for Parliamentary Affairs, Dr Rasheed Draman is of the view that when an incumbent government is usually seen aligning with the Electoral Commission with the opposition parties questioning every move by the EC, it becomes the bane of the country’s fledgling democracy.

Contributing to GBC’s Current Affairs Programme “FOCUS” which looked at post-2020 elections, Dr Draman called for a review of the appointment process of Electoral Commissioners, to build consensus among parties.

Security Expert Colonel Festus Aboagye said Ghana’s democratic culture is worsening despite the accolade as a beacon of democracy. He warned that the use of the military in managing internal affairs if not checked will have dire consequences for the country.

Colonel Aboagye called for an enquiry into the shooting and killing of unarmed civilians in a democratic state as reported in the Techiman South Constituency.

Director, Advocacy and Policy Engagement at CDD Ghana, Dr Kojo Asante condemned the politicisation of the military. On the disputed results, Dr Asante recommended that the EC provides a platform for aggrieved parties to air their grievances.
