The Alliance for Social Equity and Public Accountability (ASEPA), wants an independent inquiry into a bribery allegation leveled against a Supreme Court Judge over the election of the Speaker of Parliament.

The Alliance says the Supreme Court cannot be a judge and investigator of its own case as it could result in a cover-up.

The demand by ASEPA comes after the Chief Justice, Justice Kwasi Anin-Yeboah served notice that he will be reaching out to the NDC’s Parliamentary Chief Whip Muntaka Mubarak to assist with investigations on some allegations he made against a Supreme Court Judge.

Mr. Mubarak during an interview alleged that a very prominent judge contacted an NDC MP and offered an inducement should the person vote for the New Patriotic Party’s Speaker nominee, Prof Aaron Mike Oquaye.

While the Alliance agrees with the investigation, it wants some Members of Parliament and Civil Society groups to be part of the investigative body to ensure transparency.
