The 2024 Director of Communications for the Bawumia Campaign Team, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has criticised Ghana’s current asset declaration process, calling it outdated and ineffective.

Speaking on Joy News’ Newsfile show on Saturday, May 10, 2025, he described the practice as a waste of time that no longer serves its intended purpose.

According to Mr. Aboagye, the existing format of asset declaration is neither transparent nor useful.

“We should stop wasting our time discussing it and telling people to go and declare their assets in this current form. It should be scrapped, or we should focus our efforts on reforming it,” he said.

He noted that although President Akufo-Addo and his appointees complied with the asset declaration law, the process itself lacked transparency and effectiveness.

“The only difference now is that cameras are involved. But during our time, we ensured every appointee submitted proof of declaration. I personally coordinated the collection of receipts from all 261 Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs),” he explained.

Mr. Aboagye also pointed out the practical difficulties involved in completing the form, describing it as bulky and hard to understand. He said it often leads to under-declaration or over-declaration of assets due to challenges in accurately valuing properties.

He further questioned the logic of submitting sealed declaration forms that are never opened unless there is a legal issue. “Why should I go through all that stress only for the form to be locked in a box that no one opens?” he asked.
