New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, is optimistic about the party’s chances in the 2028 general elections, provided they effectively mobilize their base and achieve a strong voter turnout.

Dr. Bawumia, who made the remarks at the launch of his Sene East campaign, “Our Journey Together,” argued that the NPP’s 2024 loss stemmed from low turnout among its supporters, not the strength of the NDC.

“I am confident that, by the grace of God, if we resolve our internal issues and go out to vote, we will win the next election,” Dr. Bawumia stated.

Analyzing the 2024 results, Dr. Bawumia asserted that the NPP lost because 2.1 million of its core voters from 2020 failed to show up at the polls. He explained that the party’s vote count decreased significantly due to this lack of participation from their own members.

According to Dr Bawumia, since President Mahama won by a 1.7 million vote margin less than the missing 2.1 million NPP votes, the party essentially defeated itself.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, says the party’s path to victory in 2028 hinges on a careful assessment of its performance in the 2024 general elections. He expressed strong optimism that with improved voter mobilization and unity within the party, the NPP stands a strong chance of regaining power in 2028.
