Former Vice President and 2024 New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential Candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has shed light on the party’s 2024 election defeat, citing key factors that contributed to their loss.
According to the findings of the Mike Oquaye Committee report, the NPP’s defeat was not attributed to tribal or religious factors.
Instead, Dr. Bawumia revealed that the controversy surrounding the $58 million National Cathedral project and a last-minute fuel price hike were major contributors to the party’s loss. The committee’s investigation and report provided valuable insights into the party’s performance during the elections.
Dr. Bawumia’s remarks, made during the NPP’s Thank You Tour in Takoradi, aimed to set the record straight and provide clarity on the party’s internal assessment of their electoral performance.
The NPP leader’s comments are expected to spark important discussions within the party, potentially shaping their strategy and approach moving forward. By acknowledging the specific challenges that led to their defeat, the NPP may be able to refine their policies and messaging to better connect with voters in future elections.
