Deputy Spokesperson for the Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia Campaign, Dr. Ekua Amoakoh, has expressed confidence that delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will make a careful and strategic choice in the party’s upcoming flagbearer contest, insisting that the party is unlikely to overlook what she described as a proven and formidable candidate.

Speaking on Channel One Newsroom on Friday, January 2, 2026, Dr. Amoakoh said NPP delegates have historically demonstrated discernment in their leadership choices and are not swayed by excitement or rhetoric.
“Outcomes of past party congresses show that delegates carefully assess competence, character, and electoral strength before settling on a flagbearer — a pattern I believe will remain unchanged,” she noted.

Dr. Amoakoh highlighted former Vice President and NPP flagbearer hopeful, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, as one of the party’s strongest assets, citing his experience, integrity, and public profile as key advantages.

She emphasised that Dr. Bawumia has already undergone intense public and political scrutiny over the years, with numerous allegations tested and, in her view, disproved, making him a safer and more predictable choice for the party.

The deputy spokesperson cautioned against introducing a new candidate, warning that a fresh nominee would be exposed to political attacks and opposition propaganda, potentially weakening the party’s electoral prospects.
“Somebody who has been marketed, why do you put all that aside to now go and test somebody, not knowing what the opposition is going to throw at this person? See, everything that can be said about him has been said. Most of them have been proven false. Imagine we throw all of that away and now bring another candidate,” she stated.

Dr. Amoakoh concluded that, based on the party’s history and the calibre of its delegates, she does not anticipate the NPP making what she termed a wrong choice in selecting its next flagbearer.
“And so, I’m very confident that the discerning delegates of the NPP would make the right choice,” she added.
