Former Energy Minister and 2024 flagbearer aspirant, Boakye Kyeremateng Agyarko, has formally declared his intention to contest for the position of National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Mr Boakye Kyeremateng Agyarko, who had long eyed the party’s flagbearership, has abandoned his ambition of becoming the NPP’s presidential candidate.
In a statement released on Tuesday, 30 September 2025, Mr Agyarko said the decision followed extensive consultations with his family, close friends, and party members.
“I have also listened carefully to what the broad masses of our party people, and indeed many outside our party, are asking of me.
He explained that many people within and outside the party had encouraged him to take up the role, and after careful consideration, he believes it is his duty to respond.
“I will contest for the position of National Chairman when nominations open,” he stated.
