The people of Dagliga in the Nabdam District of the Upper East Region, has appealed to the Government, to as a matter of urgency intervene in the Chieftaincy dispute in the Dagliga Skin to forestall  peace in the area.

This came to light at a Press conference organized by the elders and Youth of Dagliga, in a statement captioned, “The Imposition of a Stranger Lasoob Dong as a Chief on the People of Dagliga by the Paramount Chief of Nangodi”.

The statement stated that, on the November 28, 2018, the Paramount Chief of Nangodi, Naba Asaga Yelazoya II installed one Lasoob Dong as chief of Dagliga, having been told that Lasoob Dong was no qualified to be made chief of Dagliga.

The statement added that, it is a fact that Dong himself knows that, his forebears was bought and brought to Dagliga as a slave and as such, has no legitimate right to ascend the throne as chief of Dagliga.

Naba Asaga was informed of this and he asked Dong whether it was and Dong confirmed it.

Naba Asage then told Dong in the midst of all who were present that he not qualified to be made chief.

It was thus a surprise that Naba Asaga turned round and acted against what he (Naba Asagd) said earlier before many people who were present that day.

Speaking to GBC’s Radio Ghana, Mr. Benjamin Zoti who read the statement indicated that Dagliga has two chieftaincy gates, the Tehikong Gate and the Ngou Gates.

The Tehikong gate has had two chiefs and whereas the Ngou gate had three since the beginning of chieftancy in Dagliga.

When the last chief, Tehikong Namoog died, an agreement was reached by both gates that, one person from the Tehikong gate should go and be made the third chief of that gate.

The statement indicated that, when time came, Kunamba Tambire from the Tehikong gate went to be made the next chief of Dagliga, to their surprise Lasoob Dong the stranger who does not belong to any of the gate, defied all odds and presented himself to contest for the position.
