A former Minister for Food and Agriculture and serving Member of Parliament (MP) for Abetifi Constituency in the Eastern Region, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, has declared his intention to run for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential candidacy race ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Dr. Acheampong, a staunch member of the Presbyterian Church who is eyeing the sole slot to represent the NPP in the 2028 presidential election, made his intentions known when he paid a courtesy call on the leadership of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, where he also requested their spiritual support as he prepares for the political contest.
Speaking to the media after the meeting on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, the Abetifi lawmaker explained that his decision to contest in the NPP presidential race follows a month-long assessment by a team that engaged with party delegates across the country.
According to him, his team’s findings showed a widespread desire for fresh leadership within the NPP — something he believes he represents.
“A decision has been made that I will contest when the party opens nominations, but to do that, as a product of the church, it would be a disappointment, per my tradition, if the Moderator of the Church hears it for the first time on the radio.
So, before the formal announcement is made, I thought it wise to inform the General Council and the Moderator of the Presby Church. Most importantly, I am here to also seek the blessings of God,” Dr. Acheampong emphasised.
