The Convention People’s Party, CPP today (August 22) held its first ever decentralized twin-National Delegates Congress to elect its flag bearer and national executives.

As part of the COVID-19 protocols, the polls were held simultaneously in the various regions of the country under the supervision of the Electoral Commission.

In the Ashanti region, the Congress was held at the Asawase Community Centre in the Asokore Mampong Municipality.

In all, 369 delegates from 41 constituencies and 20 council of elders, totaling 389 were expected to vote.

The congress kicked off with a referendum, which saw a total of 293 delegates cast their ballot on whether the election of a flag bearer should be held simultaneously with that of the national executives.

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the CPP, Emmanuel Gallo, explained the essence of the referendum and further touched on the elections in the region.
