Debate for NDC national executive aspirants begins Today

The Pre-election candidate debate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) aspirants in the upcoming NDC National Executive Elections organised by the Center for Social Democracy (CSD-Ghana), in collaboration with Friedrich-Ebert Stiftung begins Wednesday, October 17 at the University of Ghana in Accra.

Research fellow for the Center for social Democracy (CSD- Ghana), Kafui Tsekpo in a phone interview on GBC’s Uniiq FM breakfast show revealed that the debate is to enable the NDC to reform in terms of its activities and to help attain the purpose of being established as a Political Party under the 1992 Constitution.

 According to him, almost all the key positions within the party are expected to participate in the Debate; the Chairmanship position, General Secretary position, National Organiser, the Youth Organiser, Women Organiser and the Zongo Caucus. The Women and the Youth Organiser will be debating today, October 17, the National Organizer and the Zongo Caucus will debate on October 24, and lastly on November 1, the General Secretary and the National Chairmanship position will debate.

 “The debate is such that Candidates are going to be examined on three levels; their knowledge of the Party itself and the second aspect of the questions will be link to positions that Candidates aspire for, how they understand the position. Finally, Candidates will be quizzed on National issues. Candidates will be given three minutes to give answers to questions,” he added.

 He also noted that the Members of the Debate Advisory Board are Mr. Lee Ocran, Professor Jane- Naana Opoku- Agyeman, Dr. Benjamin Kumbour, Dr. Michael Kpessah-Whyte and Dr. Zenator Rawlings. The Members of the Debate Advisory Board together with the Technical Committee of CSD will come up with questions for the Candidates.
