Parliament has been gripped with sorrow and fear following the cold-blooded murder and robbery of one of its own.

The MPs who are scared have reiterated the call to be provided with adequate security. According to some of the MPs, the situation falls within broader insecurity in the country.

Meanwhile, President Akufo-Addo has assured MPs that he will take all appropriate measures to ensure their safety and security. In a communication to the House on the killing of MP for Mfantseman, Ekow Quansah Hayford, President Akufo-Addo said the Security Services will deploy every effort to arrest the perpetrators.

The President’s statement was read by the Speaker, Prof Aaron Mike Ocquaye.

Commenting on the incident on the Floor of the House, Deputy Minority Chief Whip, Moses Anim, welcomed the President’s assurance but called for swift action to ensure the safety of members. He called on the Police Service to reconsider its position on giving police protection to MPs.

Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu expressed regret for the response by the Police Administration when Parliament demanded enhanced police protection for MPs.
