With effect from September 1, 2020, all registered political parties will have free air time on GBC Channels to air their programmes.

To ensure that the Corporation executes its mandate professionally, a Political Broadcast Monitoring and Complaints Committee has been inaugurated during the launch of GBC Election 2020 coverage.

The committee has been expanded to include civil society organisations to engender transparency. They are: the Ghana Journalists Association, CDD-Ghana, Media Foundation for West Africa, and the National Peace Council.

The Director-General of the Corporation, Professor Amin Alhassan, assured the parties of equal air time but added that the Corporation will be unable to follow parties throughout the country, due to logistical constraints.

The Board of the Corporation will nominate a Chairperson for the Committee while the office of the Director-General acts on the advice of the Committee.

Chairman of the National Media Commission, Yaw Boadu Ayeboafo, asked the political parties to offer GBC the needed support in order to effectively discharge its duty as a Public Service Broadcaster.

He advised them to be time conscious regarding political campaign or programme to be broadcast by the State Media.

Mr Ayeboafo charged GBC to give fair and equal opportunities to all political parties in the run-up to the December polls.

The sixteen-member committee has Dr Sarah Djani as Chairperson. Members include Dominic Hlordzi, Rebecca Ekpe, and Acting Director of Television Ebenezer Ampaabeng.

The rest are Director of Programmes at Uniiq FM, Ebenezer Odzaho; GBC News Channel Manager, Barbara Gaisie; and GTV Sports+ Channel Manager, George Lomotey.
