A Political Historian, Professor Nana Essilfie Conduah, says Ghana has not achieved independence of the media.

He said successive governments have over the years manipulated the media, a situation which has impeded its work and has seen media personnel do little on stories that exposes rot in society.

Speaking on the 70th anniversary of the GJA on GBC’s Uniiq Breakfast Drive, Professor Conduah, expressed disappointment that the GJA has been reduced to a puppet of governments of the day.

On the proposal by Former President John Agyekum Kufuor, to license journalists in the country, Professor Conduah said though it is laudable,  there must be a clear cut description of who a journalist is before such a move is taken.

He raised questions about the body that would be responsible for the licensing.
