The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Ocloo, has denied allegations that she supported any candidate in the Ayawaso East parliamentary primary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
In a press release dated February, the Office of the Regional Minister described reports suggesting that she campaigned for or supported a particular aspirant as false.
“The Office of the Greater Accra Regional Minister categorically denies reports alleging that the Regional Minister is campaigning for or supporting any candidate, including the Ayawaso East Chairman, in today’s by-election,” the statement said.
The release explained that the Minister’s presence in the area was not for political activity or to back any individual or group. It said she had returned from the funeral of a fallen comrade and, following security briefings, deemed it necessary to personally visit the area to monitor the situation and help ensure calm, safety and public order.
According to the statement, the safety and security of residents in the Greater Accra Region remain the Minister’s primary responsibility. It added that apart from an official visit to convey condolences after the passing of the sitting Member of Parliament, the Regional Minister and her team have not visited the constituency for any other purpose.
The statement concluded by urging the public to disregard claims linking the Regional Minister to partisan political activities, describing such reports as false, inaccurate and misleading.
