Parliament has passed the communication service tax amendment bill 2019. The new bill allows for an increment of the tax from 6% to 9%.
This means Ghanaians will have to pay more on phone calls and internet services.
Meanwhile, some members of Parliament have suggested that the TV licence fee collected by the State Broadcaster be incorporated into the communication service tax.
This will make it easier for the money to be collected to support the operations of GBC. Parliament has also passed the energy sector levies amendment bill 2019 .
The passage makes it legal for an increment in the levies from 12% to 17%. By this, petroleum products will be increased by 90 pesewas per gallon while LPG will go up by 140 pesewas.
