Supreme Court nominee, Justice Clemence Honyenuga has apologised for his alleged endorsement of President Akufo-Addo for a second term bid during his vetting by the appointments committee of Parliament yesterday.

Justice Hornyenugah, who doubles as a traditional Chief said the comments do not reflect his personal view and they were made on behalf of the chiefs and people of the area. He has come under fire for praising President Akufo-Addo during a durbar of chiefs and people of the Afajato South District.

Justice Hornyenuga, who is the Paramount Chief of the Nyagbo Traditional Area told the Appointments Committee that the remarks were not necessarily to endorse the president but to wish him well.

According to him, the understanding was that they were wishing the President well, adding that, but if out of political dissatisfaction, some people are unhappy with whatever he is supposed to have said, then he is sorry.

Meanwhile, Justice Honyenuga says judges do not consider any case as “a political case.”According to the Supreme Court nominee, judges only consider cases on their merit and the evidence presented by parties in a case.

While answering questions from members of Parliament’s Appointments Committee yesterday, Mr Honyenuga told legislators he is yet to know of any case which is termed a political case.

He said some persons may brand cases as political, based on the parties or the matter to be determined but judges simply consider them constitutional cases, adding that cases are determined on their merit and the evidence presented before a judge and not viewed with political lenses.

Appearing before the Appointments Committee today are Professor Mensah Bonsu and Yonni Kulendi.
