In a message in the Assembly’s visitors’ book, President Mahama expressed his hope that the visit would rekindle the historic friendship between Ghana and Zambia, which has existed since both countries gained independence from colonial rule.

“It is my conviction that this visit will rekindle the historic friendship that has existed between our two countries since our independence from colonial rule,” he wrote on Thursday, February 5, 2026.

President Mahama is in Zambia for a three-day state visit at the invitation of his Zambian counterpart, President Hakainde Hichilema.

He is accompanied by the First Lady, Mrs Lordina Dramani Mahama, and other officials, and has held bilateral talks with President Hichilema on matters of mutual interest, including strengthening diplomatic relations, enhancing trade and investment cooperation, and exploring collaborative opportunities under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
