The Members of the women caucus, on the Majority side led by Member of Parliament for Dome Kwabenya Sarah Adjoa Safo have called on The Minority to apologise to women in Ghana for carrying placards with inscription “BLOODY WIDOW”.

At a news conference held in Parliament on the topic: “THE USE OF UNPARLIAMENTARY LANGUAGE DURING THE WEARiNG IN OF HON. LYDIA SEYRAM ALHASSAN”, The Caucus expressed their utmost reservation and “disgust to the shamefui stance staged by the minority yesterday. Indeed we are converging the sentiments of our constituents across the country”.

On Tuesday, on the fioor of pariiament, members on the minority side including female minority members waiked out of parliament.

They also raised up placards in the chamber with the inscription “BLOODY WIDOW”.

A situation, other female MPs’ are not happy with, “we state that their action is a vicious attack on the strenuous efforts made every the years as a people to attain Gender Parity and empower women”.

According to them, The Constitution of the Republic of Ghana frowns on the discrimination against women. Articie (12) clause (2) of the constitution states;

“Every person in Ghana, whatever his race, place of origin political opinion, color, religion, creed or gender shall be entitled to the fundamental human right and freedoms of the individual contained in this chapter but subject to respect for the right and freedoms of others and for the public interest”.

We the women of the majority caucus are grossly disappointed in the attitude and language of the minority members against Hon. Lydia Seyram Alhassan on the various Piacards displayed in the chamber yesterday, The Deputy Majority leader stated.

“We hereby condemn in no uncertain terms the act of the minority, a rather disrespectful and inhumane treatment and an attack on the dignity and integrity of womanhood”.
