The Majority Leader, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin has presented some laptops to teachers in his constituency as part of his “One-Teacher-One-Laptop” initiative which has seen distribution of about 2,000 laptops.
The initiative, according to the Majority Leader, is to assist Teachers modern technological gadgets like these laptops to enhance teaching in this era of Artificial Intelligence aimed at equipping people who matter with the necessary tools to thrive in a digital world.
He said, “in the past, such gadgets might not have been considered essential, but in contemporary times, they have become indispensable in providing quality education,”
At a handing over ceremony of the laptops to beneficiary teachers, Mr Afenyo-Markin urged them to focus on their crucial role in nation-building rather than being swayed by partisan interests.
He expressed optimism that the laptops would significantly enhance the teaching process, allowing teachers to integrate technology into their daily lessons and improve students’ learning experiences.
The event saw a high turnout of teachers who expressed their gratitude for the MP’s gesture. Many highlighted how the new laptops would alleviate previous challenges they faced in accessing digital resources and conducting research for their lesson plans.
Mr Afenyo-Markin also promised continued support for initiatives that would empower both teachers and students, ensuring that Effutu remains at the forefront of educational excellence in the region and beyond.
The Majority Leader again, urged teachers in the area to refrain from indoctrinating students with their political ideologies ahead of the 2024 general elections. He says such practices polarize the educational environment, creating acrimony among students.
“It’s an election year, you may have your views on the politics that we’re doing, but people have their views. But as teachers, please avoid unnecessary acrimony in the school. Debate your issues, but don’t let it get out of hand. Don’t let us polarise the educational environment. Your children that you are teaching, don’t extend to them.”
The Majority leader urged them to do their criticism in a healthy atmosphere and also advised them to avoid insulting politics, which will not help the country.
“I should be able to rise on my feet and debate my respected colleague on the other side, Dr. Ato Forson, on issues, and thereafter we can take tea,” he emphasized.
“Getting the opportunity to visit the House of Commons and the United States Congress has had a major impact on his political life, making him realize that politics is one thing, and nation-building is another, because nation-building is critical”, he submitted.
