The Minority in Parliament has debunked claims by government that it has settled all debts owed by the ECG.

Minister for Energy, Peter Amewu at a media briefing Tuesday, May 19 stated that government has cleared all ECG debts and still has a credit balance of more than GH¢500 million with the Company. However, Minority spokesperson on Mines and Energy, Adam Mutawakilu said the Minister’s claims are misleading.

According to him, the government just paid a particular component of the Energy sector debts and not the entire debts as the Minister wants the public to believe.

“We call on the Minister as a matter of urgency, let the people know how much energy sector debt is left.”
